General catagory?[]

I feel like we should have some sort of general/mechanics/gameplay category for describing game mechanics like haggling and adventuring. I was looking at the repeated mentions of chaining in dungeons, and we don't seem to have explained what chaining is. There's all sorts of odd things with chaining, such as how Gnolls (regardless of rock throwing or falcon punching) all count as one type, or how the ring of blue slime trap doesn't count while the four blue slime trap does. I mean, we have a suggestion of using the first dungeon to level up Louie by chaining... but never explain what that means. --DarkJeff 02:38, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

Navigation[]

Could someone add a new column called "Adventurers" and list the following: Louie, Charme, Caillou, Tielle, Elan, Nagi, Griff, Arma?

Also, with the "Characters" column, have the following: Recette, Tear, Alouette, Prime, Guild Master, Townsfolk

Thanks! Sera404 23:13, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

All those characters can be found in the "All Characters" section. --Spazturtle 15:03, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Universal template for food, treasure and decorations[]

I cant seem to get this to go at the end...

I've no idea how to do templates but we could do with a new 1 Food, Treasures and Decorations. Nothing major, just needs the 'Equippable by' line removed from the existing 1 really as it looks a bit stupid. Not a lot of point putting individual Light/Gaudy effects on them when the table is 1000x more useful for that. Could be added to the main pages template for future reference. I've just done the Melon page to see how it would look with the current. Evilsod 14:04, September 23, 2010 (UTC)

I could remove the 'Equippable by' line from the template. More precisely, to make it conditional lile 'purchase price'.

Not sure if I shold modify the template written by another person, though. Well, I'll do it now, we can always undo the changes. While at it, I'll make its width 320 pix. This way row headers will fit in one line.

Trollhand 15:34, September 23, 2010 (UTC)

Conditional will work fine. While you're at it could you do the same with the 'Effect' line? I'm just thinking of the Treasures and Decorations. In future they could be added in if someone wants to put the atmosphere values in but they'd need removing from Venders anyway. Evilsod 15:56, September 23, 2010 (UTC)

Ok, it seems to work. Conditional 'Effect' and 'Equippable by' rows. 330 pix itembox width. In case of discovering any bugs, please revert it to kiripsan's edit. Trollhand 17:06, September 23, 2010 (UTC)

Boss page layout[]

I've started doing some work on the boss pages. So far i've only done The Crowned Slime and Reginald Drisby but i wanted to see what people thought before i continue with the rest. I think i prefer the layout of Drisby, i'm not too sure about the seperate tables for Crystal Nightmare but i think it clearly differentiates between the 2. I think i'll remove the Crystal strategy section as i can just add it to the main 1. Unfortunately the pictures on the Drisby page seem to have vanished and i'm not sure why which is a pain because they were perfect. If someone else who knows how to do the pictures better than me wants to do it later then feel free. Evilsod 23:06, September 24, 2010 (UTC)

Universal template for items[]

I'm taking a look at the items pages right now, and after editing two of them, I notice that the formats are very varied.

I think we need to stick to a certain format to make the wiki look less messy.

Take a look at the Slime Fluid page.

And the Rusty Dagger page.

I like the picture on the Rusty Dagger page where the Base/purchase inflated/deflated prices are color coded as well. Could we somehow incorporate a mix of that and a neater looking page similar to Slime Fluid's?

Also, I think saying "Can be bought from Merchant's Guild" "Can be randomly found in dungeons" as indication of where it drops is a bit of a mouthful.

Why not shorten it and say "Merchant's Guild" and "Dungeon treasure" instead?

People who play the game will immediately understand what those two mean.

Also I would like to make a note of inputting the Merchant level required for merchant's guild to buy such items, and some treasures are only in certain dungeons.

These two are just some examples of what we should work on for the item pages in general.

What does everyone think?

Would anyone like to help me come up with a universal template? I may make one on my own and see how people like it.Kiripsan 04:24, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

As for the found in merchants guild thing i agree, its a bit much, i'd say the same applies to the fusion sections too. Its clear you make fusions at the merchants guild, just seems pointless having every single 1 state it
It shouldn't be too much trouble to state what Merch level you need, at least for the more obvious ones but the dungeons bit is awkward, though it might be possible to take a guess based on its price.
Ingredients could do with being run through, i've got to the point Caillou can waltz through the Crystal Nightmare boss run (bar Arma) yet i've never seen a Large Fang or Tough Stone, can't tell if its just because i'm unlucky or if they simply don't drop there.
Template should probably be different from equipment to ingredients, after all, ingredients have no stats and are mostly just used in fusion recipes.
I've been trying to keep the italics for the items ingame description at the start consistent which i think works fine. Same with the first line stating that the item is part of what category and who can use it. Followed by a comment if the writer feels it needs 1. Then a fusion section that states the recipe's name and the recipe and a location section.
As for fusion recipes i think bullet points would be fine, a simple statement of the recipe name like Level 3 Treasure would be helpful. I was using a table stolen from Trollhands pages but it seems a bit overkill for 3 items.
But then i'm new to wikia so i'm learning as i go so... :D Evilsod 05:19, September 22, 2010 (UTC)
Why don't we move the description under the picture of the item?
I decided to take a look at the template used for some of the weapons:
This page should be used for reference:
http://recettear.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Infobox_item
I recently modified it a bit so it displays the description as the caption, and shows an equippable by line.
Example: Look at the Ancient Charm page.
Source:
{{infobox item
| name = Ancient Charm
| image = Image:Ancient_Charm.jpg
| imagewidth = 80
| caption = A product of ancient technology and magic, it produces a protective barrier with a distinct high-pitched hum.
| type = Charms
| equip = All
| effect = ATK-8, MAG-8, MDEF+87
| price = 205000

}}

Price would be the base price, and the calculation will be done simply by inputting the number.

Caption would be where the description goes.

| purchaseable = yes

That line should be put in only if it's sold at Merchant's guild.

| equip =

This would be the list of adventurers that can equip said item, leave this alone if it can't be worn.

I'd love to update the documentation for the item box, but I don't know how. I think the template I modified for http://recettear.wikia.com/wiki/Ancient_Charm would be ideal for the wiki.

I will update the front page with a template once I get things working.

I have created a link to a template that I think would be appropriate for all the items. If everyone thinks 80 is too small for the picture, please make a note on the page. Kiripsan 13:29, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

IMO, the picture is too small, depending on the item's name the width varies greatly. At least restrict it by height. And 80 px? Come on, it's ridiculous. The item caption font also too small. If you have not enough space, leave it outside the infobox like it's done in earlier item pages. "Wordly" descriptions ("Can be randomly found in dungeons", etc.) are fine for human perception. I mean, we're not golems like Arma (just my opnion). Why not leave it like the Divine Staff and Necromonicon page? (well, my opinion is really biased coz I made a few item pages myself :) ). Trollhand 13:48, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, this is still under experimentation, although looking at the pictures again, they really are too small. Not exactly sure how to implement a height limit, if someone could do that for the infobox template, that would be appreciated.

The description is too small? IMO, it gives it more of an homely feel in the place I decided it should be put in. It looks like the description stretches depending on length, so we could get away with making the font bigger.

At the very least, it makes the pages look more presentable. I'm going to see if I can modify the size of the captions in the overall format.Kiripsan 15:27, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

Made the font size back to 100% from 89%, and increased the image width limit to 150. Should be more readable now. Kiripsan 16:08, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

Seems better. The main thing that bugs me is the Buyback price. I just don't see there being any need for it.
If you can buy it from the market or guild then the pricing for that with high/low makes sense.
Perhaps it could be replaced with a categories list like "Metal Items" "Weapons" "Sinister", that kinda thing. Or perhaps its effect on Light/Gaudy. Evilsod 16:19, September 22, 2010 (UTC)
The buyback price is the money you get for selling to the guild directly.
I think we could add a section on its effect with Light/Gaudy.
Merchant's Guild, Merchant Level 1 (1 in stock)
Merchant's Guild, Merchant Level 4 (Unlimited stock)
Metal items/weapons/sinister can just be added as a category, since it's much easier to look for them from the category list.Kiripsan 16:22, September 22, 2010 (UTC)
I know but theres not alot of need for it. I don't think i've ever sold something to a merchant and at any rate, the values for them are 36%, 30% and 24% of the base price so you could roughly work it out in your head.
If it doesn't look too cluttered after adding Light/Gaudy and/or categories then it doesn't matter but thats just the way i see it. Evilsod 16:45, September 22, 2010 (UTC)
Looking at some of the earlier items that also have calculations for purchases from the shop the buyback really does seem a bit cluttered.
Also would a reasonable standard for these items be:
As an example from the Standard Charm page. Just to clarify where, when and how many are available. Evilsod 19:11, September 22, 2010 (UTC)
Don't you think that stock information is really unnecesary? Each top tier item is given in 1 copy, the only exception it the very beginning of the game. And you explained it in the Merchant's Guild article. It might not clutter the page, but still...
Also I think item pages should be short and simple. We don't need to put half a wiki there, like each item's atmosphere effect. There are other pages for this. A picture, price, ways to obtain the item, adventurers equipping the item, item uses and some user notes should be enough. What do you think? Trollhand 19:29, September 22, 2010 (UTC)
I suppose you make a good point. You wouldn't be going to an individual items page to find out when it was available you'd go to the Merchant's Guild or Market pages. And if you wanted to find categories you'd go to the categories page... and same with the atmosphere. Main thing is how to obtain it and any fusion recipe's its involved in. And your table comparing all the Bracelets looked ideal also. Evilsod 19:35, September 22, 2010 (UTC)
